The Angel in Dartmouth
Dartmouth, Devon and Cornwall
Overview
At varying times in its rich culinary history, it has been known as The Angel (now and previous), The New Angel and The Carved Angel. It's famous Michelin starred chefs from the past, who include John Burton Race and Joyce Molyneux, have paved the way for the burgeoning career of Elly Wentworth. Elly's last post had been working under Hywel Jones at Michelin starred Lucknam Park, and leads with the strong ethos that the best ingredients are seasonal and local. When you have the garden of Devon and the fishing town of Brixham literally on your doorstep it's about as rich picking as it can get. You'll find bold cooking with quality seasonal ingredients with a twist, from a local forager working the moor and the Devon coastline, to local farmers championing local native breeds. The Angel itself has the perfect position overlooking the estuary and opposite the passenger ferry on the South Embankment, where you can take the river boat to Dartmouth Castle. In all, whether it's a trip to Dartmouth, or as a local haunt, it continues to grow on its success as a good and drinks destination.
