Old Stamp House
Ambleside, Cumbria
Overview
The Old Stamp House Restaurant is located in Ambleside at the heart of the Lake District National Park, in the former work place of one of its most famous and treasured natives: William Wordsworth.
Opened in 2014, the Old Stamp House team aim to offer you a unique and unprecedented experience of the food culture our county has to offer. Not only using the famous and iconic local Herdwick sheep that roam the local fells, inspiration is also drawn from the lesser-known ports on the west coast of the county with their rich history of importing spices and alcohol used in many of the local speciality dishes. Also used are the small fishing fleets at Barrow and Whitehaven to source as much local fish and shellfish as possible. Having been brought up in the nearby valley of Great Langdale the team use this unparalleled local knowledge to collect and source wild herbs, mushrooms and game from the surrounding woodlands, forests, mountains and coastline.
