Afternoon Tea at The Gore
Kensington, London - South West
Overview
The tradition of afternoon tea boasts a rich history entwined with English culture. Originating in 1840 when Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, wished to have a bite to eat between lunch and dinner, afternoon tea has since become a celebrated afternoon ritual.
With a legacy almost as iconic, The Gore London was originally built as serviced apartments on behalf of Prince Albert prior to the opening of the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park across the road. Purchased by Fanny and Ada Cook, descendants of the famed Captain Cook, the property transformed into a hotel in 1892. Frequented by performers and theatre-goers alike with the Royal Albert Hall just around the corner, The Gore soon established itself as a destination of English luxury.
With a rich English heritage, The Gore offers a captivating setting to enjoy the ceremony of afternoon tea. Their Quintessentially English Afternoon Tea celebrates traditional flavours given a contemporary flair, from finger sandwiches of smoked salmon with lemon butter and cucumber with cream cheese, to warm homemade scones and delicate pastries. Created by award-winning Chef Frederick Forster, the afternoon tea is infused with a modern twist and crafted from local, seasonal produce. Delight in the delicacies in the surroundings of The Gore’s regal library, with a complimentary glass of bubbles to elevate the experience.
The Gore has partnered with distinguished English brands to complement their Quintessentially English Afternoon Tea. Camellia’s Tea House, an independent family-run business based in London, supplies an array of small-batched loose leaf tea. Highweald, the West Sussex based wine estate, provides exquisite Brut Reserve N.V. English sparkling wine. While the finest quality English china originates from Burleigh, the esteemed pottery manufacturers honouring authentic craftsmanship and timeless luxury.
