Chapter One
Mercer Roof Terrace
City, London - East
Overview
Vintry & Mercer is set in the historic area of London's Vintry Ward, among the livery halls and guilds, set back on Garlick Hill in the warren of streets that line the Thames. You will find nearby street names of Wine, Honey, Saffron, Garlick and Cinnamon, which pay tribute to the exotic ingredients that once arrived here. The hotel name was inspired by the historic trading guilds of the area; Vintry established in 1364, was the centre for London wine merchants, and Mercer, established in 1304, was for noble textile sellers who specialised in fine silks and damasks. Today, guests dining in the Mercer Roof Terrace restaurant are able to take in the extraordinary views of London's skyline - from the dome of St Paul's Cathedral to the glass tip of The Shard. With dining available al fresco above the city lights, or inside, where the atmosphere is warm and convivial, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening wide to bring the outdoors in.
