Hawksmoor Guildhall
Guildhall, London - City
Overview
Hawksmoor Guildhall is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in the shadow of Guildhall, a stone's throw from Dolly's, the 18th century restaurant that lays claim to being the first steakhouse of them all. Owners Will Beckett collaborated with interior designers and architects Macaulay Sinclair top create a distinctly different interior to Guildhall's sister restaurants in Covent Garden, Piccadilly and Spitalfields. The interior features reclaimed materials throughout, most spectacularly the solid mahogany panelling made from Natural History Museum specimen cabinets, which lines the restaurant walls. The 1920's University of the Arts building near Bond Street provided the teak floor, the copper light doors of the wine room and the screen dividing the restaurant and the bar whilst a decorative ceiling boasts octagonal geometry and cornicing inspired by research trips to Oxford University, London townhouses and very old-fashioned members clubs. While 'dictionary thick' charcoal-grilled steaks from Longhorn cattle and fish and seafood from Brixham are the main feature at lunch and dinner, one of the real highlights of the Guildhall experience is the six course Beef Tasting Menu.
