Fifty Two at Rudding Park Hotel
Bonheur by Matt Abé
Mayfair, London
Overview
Bonheur: French, noun — [bɔ.nœʁ] A state of profound happiness, of perfect harmony between pleasure and purpose.
Occupying one of London’s most storied dining addresses on Upper Brook Street, Bonheur by Matt Abé marks a confident new chapter for modern French fine dining in Mayfair. Taking over the former home of Le Gavroche, the restaurant brings a sense of assured craft to a site long associated with culinary legacy.
This is chef Matt Abé’s first solo venture, following his tenure as Chef Patron at the three Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. His cooking at Bonheur is classically rooted yet contemporary in expression — led by ingredients, shaped by French technique, and executed with precision. Menus are designed to showcase depth, restraint and balance rather than excess, with tasting formats that allow the kitchen’s detail and discipline to come to the fore. A discreet Chef’s Table offers a more immersive experience, while the main dining room maintains a composed, unshowy elegance.
Wine plays an integral role, with a thoughtfully curated cellar that balances established names with lesser-known producers. The list mirrors the kitchen’s philosophy — favouring provenance, character and finesse over trend.
Designed by Russell Sage Studio, the interiors are intentionally understated yet richly tactile. A softly layered palette, sculptural detailing and considered lighting create a dining room that feels contemporary without chasing fashion — warm, confident and quietly luxurious.
Bonheur is a restaurant shaped by respect for its history, but not defined by it. Instead, it looks forward — combining discipline, mentorship and craft in a setting poised to become a modern Mayfair classic.
