When London’s Michelin Star Restaurants are Reopening

London is now the city to watch as restaurants prepare to throw open their doors for the first time in over a quarter year. But not all can open from the July 4th, either from an inability to trade with reduced covers, or operate sufficiently with the social distancing measures.

Out of London’s 66 Michelin-starred restaurants, only 12% (8 restaurants) have committed to opening from the get-go, and less than half have given an actual return date. More, at 15% are opting for opening in August, and September currently at 9%. 53% of Michelin restaurants have yet to provide reopening dates. Sadly we have also lost three restaurants so far, scarily amounting to 20% of London’s two Michelin-star bounty.

Yet restaurants remain agile, with many still offering an interim home dining service for the foreseeable future whilst trading laws are relaxed. And we they do reopen, perhaps repurposed slightly for the time being it will be with-the same unbeatable standards of excellence implied by their Michelin status. Coronavirus might not have been kind to hospitality, but finally it’s able to fight back.
