The UK has long embraced Italian cuisine, and for many of us it is an everyday choice of food. Italian cuisine cooked at the highest level takes our comfort classics and lifts them into something truly wonderful. For any that doubt Italian cooking translates to fine dining, remember the ‘Best Restaurant in the World’ last year in the San Pellegrino list was Massimo Bottura’s 3 Michelin star Osteria Francescana, located in a cobbled back street in Modena. Discover the finest Italian restaurants both in and out of the capital in our guide to ten of the best…Buon appetito!

Casamia

The General, Lower Guinea Street, Bristol, BS1 6SY | www.casamiarestaurant.co.uk | 0117 959 2884 | 1 Michelin star, 5 AA Rosettes, Sunday Times Top 100

In 1999 the Sanchez family made a life changing decision. They quit their day jobs, their home on the other side of Bristol and moved their two young boys to open the doors to Casamia; a trattoria serving pizza and pasta.  As time went by the Sanchez-Brothers began to transform the former trattoria into something spectacular. Focusing on seasonality and questioning everything, this young, formidable duo were named “two little geniuses” by Gordon Ramsay. The self-taught chefs were awarded a Michelin star in 2009 – the restaurant now offers one set menu that changes (along with the restaurants decor) once a season.
