2. Restaurant Sat Bains – Nottingham

This eponymous two Michelin Star restaurant is undoubtedly one of the country’s top dining destinations, and Sat Bains is not a man to rest on his laurels, with new developments and innovative ideas continually being added. Tasting menus are offered featuring highly original dishes – expect courses such as Kohlrabi ‘tagliatelle’ glasshouse pesto and Wood fired potato with cream cheese, kombu, caviar. Eight luxuriously appointed rooms are available including two suites in the sprawling former farmhouse which will turn a memorable dining occasion into an unforgettable overnight stay.

3. Boundary – Shoreditch

This highly acclaimed, stunning Conran showhouse has it all: trendy location, outré décor and solidly perfect, traditional French food that is rooted in classic recipes and techniques. 4. L’Enclume – Cartmel

One of the most talked about restaurants with the reputation of being the finest northern restaurants. Chef Patron Simon Rogan reigns supreme for his unmatched quality and craftsmanship and is noted as one of the most innovative and exciting chefs around.  He specialises in using local and foraged ingredients – mainly home grown vegetables and more recently livestock too from his seven-acre farm in the valley.

Set in a peaceful medieval village away from the main tourist areas on the edge of the Lake District, this is a beautiful restaurant with rooms for a true gastro break.

5. Titchwell Manor – Brancaster

Perched on the edge of the haunting Norfolk salt marshes, this former farmhouse fairly oozes atmosphere and character. With views of the Marsh Harriers feeding their young, with succulent local produce sizzling on the plate and with the comfort and warmth of a lovely old farmhouse enveloping you, it’s as though you’ve come home. 6. The Whitebrook Restaurant with Rooms – Monmouth

Mugwort, meadowsweet, mallow cream, pickled pine berries, lesser celandine and scurvy grass; just a few of the exotic, not to say magic ingredients you will find in the sublime dishes at The Whitebrook. The menu of unusual and foraged ingredients has recently earned Chef-Patron Chris Harrod a Michelin Star and thus one of Wales’ most celebrated restaurants is back with a resounding bang.
